Navigating a range of spatial logic, the book is about Samra Habib, a Pakistani-Canadian photographer, and her experience as a queer-identified Muslim woman who spent years in search of something as basic as “safety”, which by the virtue of being a human is the bare minimum one can expect of: from one’s country, society and community. Yet the matrix of identity within which individuals and groups are caught is such that safety and security continue to remain a far-fetched dream for so many. A memoir that traces the journey of a queer Muslim, the book oscillates between the subject of the identity-web and freedom of self-expression. We Have Always Been Here by Samra Habib, published by Penguin Random House, Canada in 2019, is the gateway to understanding the question of visibility. ![]() ![]() The Goop founder then confessed the Red Notice star is a fan favorite among her family with husband Brad Falchuk, sharing, "We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our home."Īnd as Scarlett put it, "He's a good guy!" ![]() The Black Widow actress laughed at the recognition, noting, "Yes! In other words, quite counterintuitively, genetic selection favored the more vulnerable among our ancestors – that is to say, the ones who allowed others to take care of them. ![]() For hundreds of thousands of years of our evolution, being attached to someone was a survival advantage. The prehistoric world was no place for loners: people who refused (for whatever reason) to become dependent on other people were far more likely to end up being prey. ![]() To begin with, ask yourself the following question: “If my first neighbors were lions and tigers, would I choose to rely on myself for protection or form a close bond with someone else?” This might seem a bit conservative in our age of radical individualism, but it makes a lot of evolutionary sense. Get ready to discover yourself! The evolutionary basis of attachment theoryįirst proposed by British psychologist John Bowlby in the 1970s, attachment theory is a psychological and evolutionary model of human behavior based on the idea that the need to be in a close relationship is engraved in our genes. In “Attached,” psychiatrist and neuroscientist Amir Levine and organizational psychologist Rachel Heller explain why. Though I was a little unsure about why Nathaniel wouldn't come back after his mystery was solved. I actually thought the ghost lore was interesting. I think this is a neat way to introduce Civil War history to young people. I did really like the history that was strewn throughout this book. This wasn't a book that I had to force my way through, but it also wasn't engaging either. I felt like the overall concept was great and when you stepped back and looked at the story as a whole, it was interesting. I read Anna Dressed in Blood recently, and I absolutely loved it. So I was very excited when I saw this was taking place in Gettysburg and also that it was a sort of ghost story.
